Centennial Parks and the City are Award Winning

July 1, 2017

Centennial ParkThe City of Centennial is in the south metropolitan Denver area and has been named one of the safest cities in Colorado. It was also chosen as being  among the “Best Places to Live” in America according to Money Magazine and USA Today. As home to 107,201 residents, it is important to families with children that its award- winning Cherry Creek School District and Littleton Public Schools are the top school districts in the state.

Centennial, Colorado boasts of its spacious and natural “backyard playground” that includes the lovely parks that are in and surround the City and give the residents beautiful places to enjoy their outdoor activities.

Centennial Center Park

This 11-acre park was named “Best Playground” in 5280’s “Top of the Town” issue!

Park Hours are May 1 through October 31 from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  November 1 through April 30 from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Water Play Hours are Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The park is adjacent to the Centennial Civic Center with four areas that are available for reservations: (1) the Coffee Shelter with built-in stools, benches and electricity; (2) the Large Shelter with nine picnic tables, a gas fireplace, and electricity; (3) the Plaza and (4) an Amphitheater with a stage, grass seating, electricity, and a loading dock.

Parker Jordan Centennial Open Space

In 2010 Centennial acquired 50 percent ownership of 107 acres of open space along Cherry Creek. That completed one of the final significant links in the 40-mile Cherry Creek Regional Trail which goes from downtown Denver to Castlewood Canyon State Park in Douglas County. Construction of the Cherry Creek Regional Trail and the Bronco’s Parkway Trailhead was completed in October of 2010.

17 Mile House Farm Park

Step back in time and visit this heritage area that includes a historic house, barn, silo, and windmills. The structures were restored to their condition in the early 1900’s, which served pioneers traveling on the Cherokee and Smoky Hill wagon trails. Complimentary tours of the house are conducted by members of the Cherry Creek Historical Society on one Saturday each month. You may drop by anytime during Open House hours to learn about the property’s history and significance to the Old West. Otherwise, the house and barn can be opened if you make an appointment.

Cherry Creek Valley Ecological Park

This educational nature preserve along the Cherry Creek Regional Trail shows the native wildlife and plant species that thrive in the area. Trails wind to overlooks of Cherry Creek and a small pond. A wood boardwalk goes across the wetlands to see the pond up close. Signage along the way gives local cultural and natural history.

Dove Valley Regional Park

From spring to fall, this sports park is filled with athletes from the young to the old. Included are two lighted baseball diamonds, eight soccer fields, four volleyball courts and one championships multi-use field as well as a one-mile walking path, four pavilions with barbecues for picnics, and large parking areas.

David Lorenz Regional Park

Recently updated, there are synthetic turf multi-purpose fields, a BMX track, a golf course, and a dog park.

DeKoevend Park

This is a favorite park with a well-lighted ballpark, awesome trails that have shade trees, many benches for resting, lots of green space, a stream running through the park, a cool playground with tall and small structures, basketball and tennis courts, power outlets and grills so you can barbecue for a picnic, pavilions, a recreational center, and more. This is an ideal place for walkers, runners, cyclists and equestrians.
