Central Park Neighborhood History
If you are familiar with Denver but not the Central Park neighborhood name, that is understandable as it was originally named Stapleton. The neighborhood was built on the site of the old Stapleton International Airport after it was replaced by the Denver International Airport in 1995. The name “Stapleton” comes from a former Denver mayor, who was a member of the KKK over 100 years ago. In May 2021, the neighborhood was renamed to Central Park to distance itself from the former mayor.
Today, Central Park is vibrant and diverse, and is one of Denver’s largest neighborhoods with a convenient location and many amenities. As the name implies, it has a large park that fosters an outdoor lifestyle for residents. There is much to like about Central Park.
