Denver’s Baker Neighborhood

Baker, Denver neigborhood

Baker is one of Denver’s older neighborhoods with a rich history dating back to the 1870’s. Located south of Downtown and, more specifically, south of 6th Avenue, west of Broadway, north of Mississippi, and east of I-25  and the South Platte River. Also referred to as the Baker Historic District, this vibrant urban neighborhood has undergone a lot of change over the years.  It has a mix of Victorian homes, traditional Denver brick bungalows, and newer condos.  The population is diverse, from professionals to artists, families, young hipsters, and more.

The Mayan Theatre, Blue Bonnet, and The Hornet are a few longtime hot spots, among others, and are joined by a large new crop of coffee houses, breweries, art galleries, casual and fine dining, nightlife, and shops. These spots draw in commuters as they pass by, as well as people from throughout the Metro looking for an in-town neighborhood scene at night and on weekends. Denver’s Baker neighborhood can be accessed from the Broadway and Alameda lightrail stations.

On a personal note, I attended the local Fairmont Elementary school as a kid.
